Get Lost in the Sway of TV Heart Attack
By
Carrying on the reviews of submissions by fans/labels/artists, next up (and also signed to Thorny Bleeder Records, home of Burning Borders who I reviewed – Burning Borders review) is TV Heart Attack.
TV Heart Attack, upon first listen of their EP Lost in the Sway, is somewhat hard to categorize. I would say they kind of fall into that indie-rock arena, if that is what you would categorize bands like The Killers and Franz Ferdinand to be.
As soon as I started playing Lost in the Sway, I immediately starting tapping my foot and nodding my head to ‘Nowhere Fast’. See the video below for this song, by the way.
The lyrics in TV Heart Attack’s songs strike the perfect balance between being too specific (causing an inability to relate to them for some) and too general (hence a feeling of unoriginality).
‘Nowhere Fast’ is a good example of this, as it could be talking about saying goodbye to a relationship that is going nowhere, or could just be speaking about any other situation where breaking off on your own is the best option.
‘A 0′, the song that was originally sent my way, starts out slow and builds into a huge chorus full of ‘ohhh-ayyyayay-ohhh-ohhhs’ (yes, in fact, that is the best impression I can do). Upon second thought, comparing this band to The Bravery probably would be another artist that could be thrown accurately into the mix.
‘Mean What You Say’ is a song that speaks to the practicality of knowing exactly what you want and going after it, because in the end it is what you accomplished – not what you planned to do – that really matters:
Know what you want
Mean what you say
When the sun falls from the sky
There’s no more ‘here’ and ‘in between’ yeah
Overall, I would highly recommend Lost in the Sway to anyone who is into the indie-rock style, or anyone who is a fan of the bands I compared them to above – The Killers, Franz Ferdinand, and The Bravery.
And besides, next time you have your pretentious indie-rock fan friends over, you can throw this on and show them the new great band you found out about. It’ll put them back in their place. Quick.
