Have the Kings of Leon Met Their Match with Stuedabakerbrown?
By
Stuedabakerbrown is a band that understands the power of Twitter.
They got in touch with us via our Twitter page (www.twitter.com/outsidervocals, follow us!) and wanted to know if we would review them. Of course I said sure, let’s see what you’ve got to offer.
I was first sent the song ‘Heartbeat’, and it caught my ear. Actually, the first time I listened to it I played it 3 times in a row.
I got back in touch with Josh, a member of Stuedabakerbrown, and told him to please send me the EP they have out now, Closer. He also sent me the two songs packaged in their release of the song ‘Heartbeat.’
I continually say this, but I honestly have no idea how these guys have not made it big yet. They have the sound that has become so popular lately; and they do it extremely well. They are definitely not one of those knock-off sub-par bands that are just jumping on the bandwagon. Like I said in a former review, those bands might be riding the wave of success briefly, but fall off the map very quickly once that wave crashes into the shore.
These guys sound a lot like a cross between Coldplay and Kings of Leon. The songs are not piano-driven like Coldplay’s are; but do have the mid-tempo feel and sound of a song like ‘Use Somebody’ by KoL.
My only gripe with these guys is that their songs all sound a little bit too similar. On the opposite side of that, DMB has a lot of fans, as do Breaking Benjamin, Godsmack, and Three Doors Down. All of those bands, especially the latter three, sound exactly the same in 98% of their songs. It can be argued that the composition of DMB songs is different, but the basic idea remains: if you like their sound, you can’t get enough of them. If you don’t like it, you avoid them like the plague. So it may very well turn into a love-or-hate scenario for you with Stuedabakerbrown as well. Hopefully you feel the way we do and it is the former, not the latter.
With a touring schedule that seems to take them to various locations along the east coast (they recently played Duke University in North Carolina, and are playing locations in Pennsylvania and New York in the near future), you may very well get to see these guys in action in the near future.
And if it all doesn’t pan out…the lead singer could always try to make a career out of impersonating Rob Dyrdek.
