Show Review: Evergreen Terrace Midwest Bound and Down Tour – 3/29/10 – Charleroi PA
By Duke
As I mentioned in the previous Evergreen Terrace Review that was written awhile back, last time they came into town I missed out on seeing them for no good reason at all.
When I heard through the Concert Chaos MySpace Page that they would be coming back into the area, I made sure that I was not going to miss out on them again.
Before the show even started, Andrew Carey (lead vocals) was already getting attention…from some 15 year old girls hanging out in the parking lot of a nearby restaurant. Andrew was not dissuaded from getting back into Club Octane though.
The show opened with two local acts, Malevolence and Arcane Haven. Both were pretty much what you would expect from opening acts at a metal show. Arcane Haven had a real cool cover of Paramore’s ‘crushcrushcrush’. When Brad (guitar/backup vocals) asked if anyone in the audience liked Paramore, only a few brave souls raised their hand or made any noise; probably for fear of getting yelled at before they knew that the song was going to be covered. Brad’s reply to that was “Well, —- everyone else, we’re playing this song anyway.” And it was a good thing they did.
Arcane Haven’s lead singer had a bit more stage presence than the previous band’s lead singer did, and they were the first act to truly get the crowd whipped into a frenzy. Part of that was probably because at the end of next month, they are playing a show with Miss May I, and they gave a ticket away to the fan in the audience who “moved the most during the next song.”

Stray From the Path was the first band to play that was on the full leg of the Midwest Bound and Down Tour. Well…kind of. It turns out that they were leaving the tour after this show, but according to the Stray From the Path Facebook Fan Page they will be playing the Atticus Metal Tour shows in New York City and Worcester, MA.
After announcing that they were going to be playing an old song, the first serious circle pit of the night erupted. Shortly after this, they covered ‘Bulls on Parade’ by Rage Against the Machine, which was a really sweet cover. Craig Chaney (Evergreen Terrace’s guitar/vocals) must have caught wind of this cover on an earlier performance, because he hurried into the room as soon as he heard the song start. He wasn’t the only band’s vocalist who liked the performance, however, as the lead singer of Malevolence got into the pit fairly quickly and started showing off some dance moves.
Here is a link to the Stray From the Path MySpace Page.
Speaking of dance moves, there were two GIRLS at the show who had absolutely no fear of any guys in the audience, they were running around lighting people up just as much – if not more – than the guys were. As usual, there were a few tough guys in the crowd who decided to run around the edge of the circle and just shove/hit as many people as they could, but after a few good shoves back they stopped.
Death Before Dishonor took the stage and had a distinct Boston hardcore feel to them. It was pretty evident who they considered to be their influences, since most of the members and their fans were wearing stuff from the band Terror. One of the members also had a Madball hoodie on. If you are into hardcore, or you like Hatebreed, check them out. (Death Before Dishonor MySpace Page)
That brings us to the main attraction, Evergreen Terrace. Andrew was extremely calm and collected before the show – I saw him breezing around the venue several times – but once on stage he became a bat out of hell, much to the delight of everyone in the crowd.
Their set list looked like this (if any of these songs are wrong please let me know, I was trying to take videos, photos, and not get run into all while trying to keep track of the songs played):
Enemy Sex
New Friend Request
Where There’s Fire We Will Carry Gasoline
Brave Reality
I’m A Bulletproof Tiger
Everlong (Foo Fighters Cover)
Dogfight
Mario Speedwagon
The Smell of Summer
Chaney Can’t Quite Riff Like Helmet’s Page Hamilton
If you have seen them live in concert before, you know how their stage show was. If you haven’t, rather than trying to explain it, watch the videos embedded below. They will speak for themselves.
Check out the photos from this show – as well as other shows we have covered – on the Outsider Vocals Facebook Fan Page!
Special thanks goes out to Concert Chaos for giving us tickets to the show!
If you choose to embed any of the photos or videos from the show, please give credit where credit’s due.

Not a fan of Club Octane whatsoever, but it was worth it to see Evergreen Terrace
