Airbourne Stands Up For Rock and Roll

Airbourne – along with The Casanovas – are one of Australia’s gems in the music scene (I hear the girls down there aren’t too shabby either).

Channeling early AC/DC, Airbourne is a sure-fire hit for anyone who:

A. Likes AC/DC’s punky riffs and song structure in general
B. Wants to find a band that knows how to rock and has a classic rock, party hard attitude

The band was formed in 2003 by the brothers Joel and Ryan O’Keeffe, and after finding several others who were interested, formed Airbourne. Their EP, Ready to Rock, was released in 2004, and their full length disc, Runnin’ Wild, was released in 2007. They signed with Roadrunner Records shortly thereafter to get worldwide publicity for their releases.

The two albums both have tunes that will get stuck in your head right away. The EP, Ready to Rock, is not quite as strong as their full length as a lot of the songs seem to be structured exactly the same, Runnin’ Wild, but it will still have you nodding along or tapping your fingers to the guitars. “Stand Up for Rock and Roll”, “Diamond in the Rough”, “Runnin’ Wild”, and “Heartbreaker” are some of the best rock ‘n roll songs I have heard in quite awhile.

The band has another album in the works, which will hopefully be released sometime in 2009. As for now, most of their exposure has only been through video game soundtracks, including Madden 08 and 09, NHL 08 and 09, and Guitar Hero World Tour. This is definitely a band you are going to want to check out – especially if you love to rock!
